What is Flexible PCB?

Flexible circuit boards, also known as flex circuit, flex pcbs, or FPC, are designed for saving room and improving the flexibility to meet a smaller and higher density mounting design. It also helps to reduce the assembly process and enhance reliability. In brief, FPC is the only solution to ensure the miniaturization and moving of electronic products.

The Benefits of Flexible PCBs

Flexible printed circuit boards offer many potential benefits so that flexible PCBs are now being used widely to replace traditional FR4 PCB in various different applications.

  • Reduce weight and space: Thickness can be as thin as .004 inches (.10mm) in total.

  • Reduce assembly costs: Flex circuits can be tested prior to assembly of components.

  • High tensile strength: can be significantly warped/deformed without breakage.

  • High Heat Dissipation: Owing to the compact designs and denser device populations, shorter thermal paths are created. This helps dissipate the heat faster than a rigid circuit.
